How It Started

Plot Starters began with a simple question: how can families grow fresh, healthy food when space, resources, and access are limited? In 2023, what started as a small, hands-on experiment quickly revealed a larger opportunity. Early prototypes of compact hydroponic systems showed that food could be grown efficiently in homes and community spaces, even in dense urban environments.

As the project grew, it became clear that access to fresh food was only part of the challenge. Many communities also lacked the knowledge, support, and infrastructure needed to grow food consistently. Plot Starters was formed to address all three—providing not just systems, but education, guidance, and a clear path for long-term success.

From the beginning, the goal was scalability without losing community connection. This led to the creation of the Pod model, which empowers local leaders to support growers, manage seedlings, and build sustainable food networks. Today, Plot Starters continues to evolve from those early experiments, driven by the belief that everyone deserves the ability to grow their own food—no matter where they live.
